Dozens of callers alerted the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center of the crash that took place around 9:14 p.m. at the intersection of North Benson and the Post roads, according to the Fairfield Fire Department.
Within seconds of the first 911 call, an off-duty EMT reported additional information that a driver was trapped in one of the vehicles and extrication would be needed, the department said on Facebook.
Engine One and Rescue One under the command of Lt. Eric McKeon arrived on scene within 4 minutes.
Crews went right to work to rescue the East Hampton woman who was trapped as onlookers crowded the surrounding parking areas, the department said.
The woman was extricated from the car using "The Jaws of Life" to remove the driver's side door within 11 minutes of the first firefighter's arrival.
Following her removal, she was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The second driver, a male teenager, only had a very minor injury and was released to his father, the department said.
